“Parker Palmer once observed that community is the ‘place where the person you least want to live with always lives.’…In the eyes of others, we might be that person…”
After a busy weekend, I am back. And what a devotion to come back to!
It is difficult to think of community–real, authentic community–as a place where we are inevitably challenged to extend love and patience to those people we have the hardest time with. But it is even more difficult (for me, at least) to accept the reality that in every community there is a good chance someone will view me as that person they least want to live with. I just want every one to like me. You mean that’s not a realistic life goal?
Shoot.
